Year 2007: smartBridges unwires Africa
As we bid farewell to 2007, we thought it would be interesting to share with our readers some of the unique projects that we’ve developed in Africa. We started our journey in the historic Sinai Peninsula, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea. In partnership with ProLight International, smartBridges Backhaul, Access Point, and Client devices were used to provide connectivity for a cement plant located in the Sinai desert, which is more than 50 miles (80 km) from the nearest city. The cement plant and neighboring buildings (workshop, store, and main gate) can now communicate with each other via VoIP as well as access the Internet. Thanks to the constant connectivity of smartBridges devices, productivity at the cement plant has significantly improved and errors are minimized.
We then traveled south to the city of Polokwane, South Africa, a major business destination with modern sophisticated infrastructure and the host for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Scan RF selected the smartBridges Nexus platform to provide connectivity to the entire city and gear up for the World Cup. The FIFA World Cup will be even more entertaining now that the highly reliable smartBridges devices are on the front line.
Later in the year, a project by Payless Broadband Network Limited invited us to Lagos, Nigeria, the largest financial and commercial center of Africa. With the growing needs of a developing city, it was absolutely necessary to improve upon the communications infrastructure in order to stay competitive. After intense research, Payless Broadband, the leading Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) selected the affordable smartBridges devices to offer businesses value-added services such as Wi-Fi, VoIP, and VPN access.
These are just a few of the projects that were deployed in Africa, Click here to contact us if you are interested in deploying a similar project anywhere in the world.
