NEWS

smartBridges.com Gets a New Look and Introduces New Services!

If you haven’t visited smartBridges.com in the past few days, now would be a perfect time to do so. We’ve invested several months of intense effort into planning and re-designing the website to highlight our new range of products, solutions, and services. In addition to this, the support information is presented to you in a clearer and concise manner.

In order to further simplify your product selection process, a new product matrix is featured - .you merely need to select the best application that satisfies your requirement. For a small network that requires email or web-browsing, the data application products would be well suited, however if you would prefer to deploy a much lager network with additional services such as voice and video, then the higher-end products would be more appropriate. Click here to view the new product matrix.

Besides the new design and content, one section to especially highlight is the Project Consultancy Services. As you are aware, deploying a wireless network in a city or rural community is a complex task that requires in-depth planning and a well organized execution.

smartBridges Project Consultancy Services are specifically tailored to provide the technical expertise required to implement such networks. Our team of experienced project managers and engineers will work closely with your organization to generate a project scope and follow through to its closing stage. Project Consultancy Services are available in the following areas:

We encourage you to visit the new smartBridges.com and we look forward to your feedback.

EDITOR'S VOICE... OVER IP

Wow! What an amazing week – CommunicAsia officially came to a close last Friday. Sincere thanks to everyone who visited our booth and helped make this event a success. It’s always a pleasure to meet our partners and customers face to face to understand their needs and learn how we can improve our services. For our partners and customers who were unable to visit us this year, we have compiled a full round up of the event in the section below. Make sure to check it out!

In addition to preparing for CommunicAsia, we have worked diligently during the past few months to re-design our website and re-align our products to meet a variety of usage scenarios. This included a new product matrix, an updated range of solutions, and Project Consultancy Services.

Since our products are deployed in some of the most unique locations you can imagine, it is necessary for us to provide troubleshooting and performance enhancing techniques so that the wireless links are stable in every type of environment. The smartTips section features two parameters that can be tweaked to enhance the performance of our devices.

We encourage you to visit smartBridges.com and are confident that you will enjoy this experience. Thanks for your support all along, and we look forward to serving you better.

Event Round Up

smartBridges @ CommunicAsia 2008 - A Full Round Up

June 17th to 20th was an exciting week for smartBridges as our Sales, Marketing, and Technical Support teams were out in full force delivering presentations and responding to inquiries, while catching up with our existing partners and customers over a cup of coffee.

The theme of Rural Connectivity caught the attention of visitors attending from some of the most remote regions of the world. As we strive to Bridge the Digital Divide, our latest range of products and solutions designed for Broadband Wireless Access, Fixed Location VoIP Telephone Service, and e-Gov, just to name a few, perfectly met their requirements.

As expected, the new, low cost, and high performance airClient 241 (sB3417), which was showcased for the first time was received with tremendous enthusiasm. Visitors were impressed by the features and long range capabilities of a wireless device embedded in a small (and attractive) form factor.

This lead to further inquires about our new matrix of products and array of services offered. Since the purpose of each deployment is different, - for instance, a few projects require low bandwidth for basic Internet access in a small residential area, other deployments plan to offer voice and video connectivity to rural businesses in order to reduce their communication expenses. Our team gracefully clarified all doubts, sending off the customers with an even bigger smile than they had arrived with.

Overall, CommunicAsia this year has once again been a remarkable success for smartBridges. We sincerely thank our customers and partners for all the support while we strive to serve you better.

Achieving a Stable and Reliable Wireless Link

The performance of a wireless network usually depends on environmental conditions that are beyond our control, such as weather, terrain, RF interference, etc which lead to difficulties in getting associated, unstable links with low RSSI, link fluctuations, low throughput, high noise and packet losses.

In such situations, even slightly tweaking a few parameters can offer a significant improvement in performance. Here are two parameters that can be adjusted in the sB devices.

  1. Fragment Length: Fragmentation is a technique that divides a large data packet into smaller-sized data packets so that they can be sent through a network that can only transfer small data packets. Fragmentation occurs during network transmission. When these packets are received at their destination, they are reassembled to their original data packet size.

    Default Value: 2346
    (Adjustable value: 256 – 2346)

Suggestion: Try re-configuring the fragmentation threshold to the value (Ex: 1536) and gradually decrease (Ex: 1024 or 512) until you get better results. Since larger packets have a higher probability of collisions on the network, by decreasing the length of each packet through setting the fragmentation threshold, the probability of interference during packet transmission can be reduced.

  2. Preamble: A preamble is a sequence of bits in synchronous transmission that the receiving device must recognize and lock onto. Once the receiving device locks onto the preamble, it knows where to find the rest of the packets.

    Default Value: Preamble Settings: Long
(Adjustable value: Long or Short or Dynamic)

    Suggestion:
Long: A long preamble provides a stable link
Short: A short preamble improves throughput performance but it only allows short preamble capable Remote devices to be associated
Dynamic: A dynamic preamble allows mixing of short and long preambles
